Scottish Car Insurance Customers 'should Watch For Pot Holes' By AIG Direct Car customers driving through Scotland should be especially wary of pot holes, it has been suggested.
In data published by campaign website Potholes.co.uk, Scotland emerged as the worst location for divots in the roads.
According to Warranty Direct, over an eight-year period six per cent of cars suffer from axle and suspension damage which can be traced back to poor road quality.
Of the top ten worst-rated regions for axle and suspension failures, five are in Scotland, with Ayrshire the worst of all with a failure rate
of 14.05 per cent. This is a good reason to make sure you have car insurance.
Commenting on the figures, Warranty Direct's managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher said: "Either continuous driving over cracked or uneven road surfaces or the sudden jolting of a deep pothole can cause damage to shock absorbers, springs, upper and lower arms and stabiliser bars and this appears to be happening more in Scotland than anywhere else."
According to the Potholes.co.uk website, road maintenance is underfunded by around 50 per cent or £1 billion each year.
